Chicago’s Thrixel launches editable 3D tools with $3M in inception funding

Sourced news brief · See the publication date above and original source below.

Chicago-based Thrixel announced its public launch on October 8, 2026, backed by $3 million in inception funding. Its disclosed investors include Sierra Ventures, MFV Partners, Harper Court Ventures and Z5 Capital, alongside Jon Barron and Matt Bilbey. The release does not give a separate financing closing date.

Founded by University of Chicago computer scientist Rana Hanocka, Thrixel generates 3D objects with separately named components. The company says this structure lets coding agents manipulate individual parts rather than treating an object as a single opaque asset.

Why structure matters

Its new Build World workflow pairs generated assets with agent-written code for interactive experiences. Thrixel lists Roblox, Three.js, Unity and Unreal Engine among supported environments.

HVN’s view: editable components could make generated content more useful in a production workflow. The questions to watch are how much correction artists need, how reliably assets integrate, and whether customers return for repeat projects. Product capabilities are company-described; the announcement is not an independent performance evaluation.
